Bertolf took part in the 2011 project, Lorrainville: lorrainville.bandcamp.com/
There is an interesting story behind the recordings. In January 2011, Aalbers was playing a game at Facebook called Make Your Own Album Cover, which uses random elements from the net to select band name, album name and cover art for an imaginary album. The album that he ended up with was this one that he posted at his Facebook page:
The album cover then began to elicit comments from musicians who had their ideas of what the music on the album would be like: a somewhat melancholic singer/songwriter album in the vein of a Ray LaMontagne, Elliot Smith, or Ryan Adams. By about the 40th response to his Facebook posting, Aalbers decided to actually record such an album and asked for volunteers to help with creating the music, not for money but for the love of music. In a few days, he had over 65 songs submitted by songwriters.
The album is was created in Aalber's spare time.
I thought I would share a beautiful example of a song-in-the-making in the studios of Dutch music producer Guido Aalbers. It's a song by Erik Neimeijer called "This Old Town":
Next, Angelo de Rijke is shown here improvising a guitar part to go with "This Old Town":
Here are some other videos of the work in progress:
Bertolf in the studio:
The last video is of a song called For My Blue, a demo of which Bertolf had at his MySpace page back in 2008 which is when I became aware of his music and a fan. I'm happy that the song will finally be put onto a record, and it's a fine fit for this particular album.
